For the past two years, I have provided articles on first responders and mental health. This is an area that is still underserved and overlooked. Every day first responders put their lives on the line for the citizens they serve. During the years 2020 & 2021, the number of suicides for this population decreased, however last year there was an 4.2% increase. Suicide remains an option for first responders. According to First H.E.L.P, there has been 56 first responder suicides that has been reported this year. It is my goal to bring awareness to this vulnerable population. I will be hosting and co-hosting two events this year on awareness and prevention.
On August 8th, 2023. Leadership Symposium: "Leading Through Compassion: Breaking the Stigma in Mental Health - A Symposium for Law Enforcement and Public Safety Professionals." This symposium is a collaborative effort aimed at equipping law enforcement and public safety professionals with vital tools to navigate the complex landscape of officer wellness. We believe in fostering compassionate leadership and addressing mental health challenges head-on.
September 9th, 2023, Relif, Inc will host the 2nd Annual First Responder Suicide Prevention 5k, will be held in Locust Grove at Strong Rock Christian School. Registration is open now. Funds raised from this event goes towards training and prevention workshop for first responders.
In April, I hosted a free training for law enforcement and those who work closely in the investigation process for child exploitation. Experts from doTERRA Healing Hands/Hope and the National Center on Sexual Exploitation provided two days’ worth of education for officers free of charge. Officers were able to use this training toward their continuing education requirements for the year.
